1880-1948James H Lloyd Collection
The collection consists of 17 photographs of James H. Lloyd of Oak Hill’s ancestors. A photograph of Mary Evans Lloyd Jones (c. 1880) and a family portrait of David A. and Ann Thomas Lloyd and children (c. 1890) are of his paternal ancestry while the remainder are of his maternal ancestry, relating to the family of Rees[e] N. Edwards of Madison Township, Jackson County. He was born in Wales in 1854 and a member of the ‘Brynele’ clan of Nantcwnlle, Cardiganshire. There are several photographs of him, including one of him standing outside Newt Evans’ Blacksmith shop in Oak Hill (c. 1908) and in the reception of Edwards Hotel, Oak Hill (1926) together with that of his family and also many of his four daughters – Elizabeth, Margaret, Estella and Ada, who performed as the popular Edwards Sisters Quartette. A photograph of their home church, Moriah, in the snow and the farmhouse of John O. Lloyd [the son of David and Ann Lloyd], whom Elizabeth married in 1913 also form part of the group together with Fox Den School and an audience outside Nebo Church.
